General
What is Sustainable Independence?
Sustainable independence is the ultimate goal of I am NEXT. This is when a youth has progressed from a member of the program to a member of the community of I am NEXT and is fully capable of using the skills and techniques they have acquired to support themselves fully. Even further beyond, sustainable independence is also shown when a former member of the program begins to give back in the same way that they were given to, thus creating an organic and continuously growing community based on the thoughts and feelings of the youths at the core of our program.
What makes I am NEXT different?
I am NEXT utilizes a nuanced and holistic approach that attempts to meet the youth that we serve where they are at and keep lived experience experts such as Kobe McCoin close at hand when making decisions for our programs.
What is the Housing First approach?
NEXT believes that before the hierarchy of needs can be met, our members need a stable place to call home. From this launch point, not only do we garner trust from our members, but our members begin to trust in us. As mentioned, NEXT aims to meet our youths where they are; often, the simplest solution is the correct one. Our members face homelessness directly, so with the housing first approach, we will realize that we are not trying to put them into a system as they have been for most of their lives, but more so that we want to help because we know what it’s like.
